The South Melbourne Life Saving Club, located on Beaconsfield Parade in Albert Park, Victoria, is a prominent coastal community facility supporting lifesaving operations, training, and public engagement along South Melbourne Beach. As one of the closest patrolled beaches to the Melbourne CBD, the facility operates as a critical asset for water safety, member training, and community use, requiring robust and reliable building services to support continuous operation within a coastal environment.

EDSA Group was engaged as the electrical contractor to deliver a comprehensive services package across the development, including electrical light and power, data and communications, security systems, audio-visual infrastructure, and a solar PV system. The works required detailed coordination across operational, training, and function spaces, ensuring all systems were integrated to support lifesaving activities, public access areas, and event functionality. Particular consideration was given to durability and performance within a coastal environment, with all systems delivered in accordance with Australian Standards and project-specific requirements.

The architecturally significant facility has been recognised through multiple industry awards, including the AIA Victorian Architecture Awards 2020 – Public Architecture Commendation, City of Port Phillip Design and Development Awards 2020 – Sustainability and Non-Residential Development, and as a finalist in the Architizer A+ Awards 2021 (Architecture + Community). The inclusion of solar infrastructure further supports the project’s sustainability objectives and long-term operational efficiency.

The South Melbourne Life Saving Club now operates as a modern, resilient, and community-focused facility, supported by integrated electrical and renewable energy systems that enable reliable day-to-day operations in a high-profile coastal location.
